Holiday Swimming Pool Games

When you have kids that love the water as much as mine did, that means finding fun things they can do in it. Sometimes all kids need to be entertained is the pool itself, but every kid loves a good pool game.

You really don't have to go far for the best activities—everything you need is right in your backyard, if you're lucky enough to have your own swimming pool, you know that kids love spending hours in it when they're on holidays. The following creative ideas will make for a great addition to their aquatic fun;

Sharks & Minnows - Have 1 child (shark) in the middle of the pool. Have all other kids (minnows) on the side of the pool. The objective of the game is for the “minnows” to get across the pool without getting caught by the shark/s. If a minnow is caught, then it becomes a shark.

Capture the Change - Throw a bunch of change in the pool and let your swimmers scoop it up. Work fast to get the most change! Super easy and a big hit with the kids.

Atomic Whirlpool - Tell players to get in the pool and line up in a single-file line along the edge of the pool. First, tell the players to walk around the edge of the pool. After about 30 seconds of walking, tell them to jog around the edge of the pool. After about 30 seconds of jogging, tell them to start running. By this point, there should be a strong current pulling them along. Tell the players to stop and walk in the other direction. It’ll be almost impossible to move against the current!

Watermelon Push Relay - A super fun relay race. Play as individuals or in teams. Players must push a watermelon from one end of the pool to the other without touching the bottom of the pool with their feet.

Belly Flop Contest - It hasn’t changed a bit since you were a kid. Have all the kids line up and see who can make the biggest splash all while landing on their belly in the pool!

Bobbing Heads - This is just like the game whack-a-mole but in the pool. Using a pool noodle, as the “Wacker” must try and pluck off the bobbing players when they pop up from under the water. Once they’re all plucked off, trade places and bob again.

Cannonball - Jump from a diving board or the side of the pool as high as possible, bring your knees as close as you can to your chest. Grab and hold onto your knees with both arms, like you’re hugging them. Tuck your chin and plunge into the water like a cannonball. See who makes the biggest splash.

Octopus - “It” is in the middle of the pool. Players try to get from one side to the other without getting tagged by “It”. When “It” tags a player, they join them in the middle and hold hands. Subsequent players join in as well until you have a long line (an octopus) in the middle. Play until 1 is left and then start again.

Ping Pong Ruckus - Dump a bucket of ping pong balls into the water. Meanwhile, place a bucket on each side of the pool. Split players into 2 teams. Players must collect ping pong balls, one at a time and carry them back to their team’s bucket. The team with the most balls at the end of the time limit wins.

Pool Noodle Races - Sit on a noodle like a horse and race from one side of the pool to the other. It may look easier than it is. Play as individuals or do as a relay in teams.

Happy Holidays:-)
